Fourdrinier type paper machine was invented by french man Nicholas Louis Robert in the year of 1799, shortly after that English man Joseph Bramah invented cylinder mold type machine in the year of 1805, he first proposed the concept and graphic of cylinder mold paper forming in his patent, but Bramah’s patent never comes true. In year of 1807, an America man named Charles Kinsey again proposed the concept of cylinder mold paper forming and obtained patent, but also this concept never get exploited and utilized. In the year of 1809, an English man named John Dickinson proposed cylinder mold machine design and obtained patent, in the same year, the first cylinder mold machine was invented and put into production in his own paper mill. Dickinson’s cylinder mold machine is a pioneer and prototype for present cylinder former, he is deemed as the true inventor for cylinder mold type paper machine by many researchers.
Cylinder mold type paper machine can produce all types of paper, from thin office and household paper to thick paper board, it has the advantages of simple structure, easy operation, low power consumption, small installation area and low investment etc. Even the machine running speed is far behind fourdrinier type machine and multi-wire type machine, it still has it’s place in today’s paper production industry.
According to the structural characteristics of cylinder mold section and dryer section, the number of cylinder molds and dryers, cylinder mold paper machine can be divided into single cylinder mold single dryer machine, single cylinder mold double dryer machine, double cylinder mold single dryer machine, double cylinder mold double dryer machine and multi-cylinder mold multi-dryer machine. Among them, single cylinder mold single dryer machine is is mostly used to produce thin single-sided glossy paper such as postal paper and household paper etc. Double cylinder mold double dryer machine is mostly used to produce medium weight printing paper, writing paper, wrapping paper and corrugated base paper etc. Paper board with high weight, such as white cardboard and box board mostly choose multi-cylinder mold multi-dryer paper machine.
